Everest 850-C: Casement   /   Everest 850-A: Awning

Safety & Noise

Security Advantages: Because Fleetwood endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we can provide specialty products that others should not. The best glass for high-security is laminated glass. It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a polyvinyl interlayer, just like your car windshield which must withstand severe impact for your safety. Unless our competitors have an operating system equal to Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.

Fire Heat Resistance: There are window and door products designed and rated to resist impingement of actual flames but these steel framed products are limited in function and design. Aluminum doors and windows offer great performance and style and actually help maintain wall integrity during a fire. The real enemy which often incinerates houses is heat or flying embers. Typical residential windows (wood or vinyl) are quickly damaged by heat and embers. Our extruded aluminum retains its form at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit thereby protecting your home.

Missile Impact: The Everest is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant glass. This specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard laminated glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile impacting at 50’ per second.

Sound Abatement: Some homes are located in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however, exterior noises such as traffic are best if kept out. We offer all of our products with sound abatement glazing.

Maintenance & Installation

Resilient Materials: The Everest window consists only of the highest-grade stainless steel rollers and latch assemblies. As well, we only use stainless steel fasteners to attach these components to the aluminum framing and we only provide stainless steel installation screws.

Helping Installers: To assist builders with a waterproof installation we offer an integral nail-on fin (part of the frame extrusion). Other window factories attach a separate add-on fin. This short cut can cause water leak issues years down the road.

Vermin Resistant: When consideration is being made for the type of doors you want for your home, rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our 6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant.

Fasteners: We only provide stainless steel installation screws so the finished product remains attractive despite the harshest environments.

Basic Care: Fleetwood has published a simple set of procedures to ensure the long life of your Fleetwood doors and windows. It is conveniently located on the Homeowners section of our website.

Energy

Balance: A well designed window balances the type, size and quantity of its weather-stripping. Too much and the door is hard to operate. Too little weather-stripping and the window works well but does not keep out water and wind effectively.

Hybrid Energy Blockers: The perimeter frame extrusions and the glass panel extrusions are equipped with an energy-blocking polymer, making the Everest one of the most energy efficient performance windows on the market. The process is simple and eco friendly.

Unique Glazing Selections: Because of technological advances, a great variety of energy efficient glazing can be factory fit into your window. Products such as “self cleaning” and “spectrally selective low e glazing” allow consumers to customize windows for their specific needs.

Why Aluminum Lasts Longer II: Aluminum is thermally stable in that it does not swell and shrink when the temperatures or humidity levels change. One might say that aluminum is a more intelligent window material in that it deals with such stress in a positive way by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure as it does in vinyl and wood. The fact is that very little actual energy is lost through the frame material.

Preserving Art: Larger windows mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one of our higher performing glass systems the light is conditioned for greater comfort. Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves your comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.

Glare Concerns: Another added benefit to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced, allowing you to enjoy your view all the more. Our “spectrally selective low e glass” is a great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.

Larger Windows Save Money: Because of its strength, the Everest can be made in large sizes. Coupled with energy saving glass, your window becomes more energy efficient the bigger it gets!

Selecting Your Glass: In the Product section of our website we list several test results with varying types of glass, from standard insulated glass to high performance glass. This information can be helpful in determining the right glass choice for your order.

Why Aluminum Lasts Longer I: Aluminum transfers energy effectively. Wood and vinyl window makers have wrongly promoted this as a negative trait. Other window materials absorb heat and cold into the frame, causing that material to fail prematurely. This is especially apparent during season changes where swelling and shrinkage adversely affect a window’s performance. Aluminum deals with such stress in a positive way by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure as it does in vinyl and wood. The fact is that very little energy is lost through the frame material.

Passive Solar Energy: Because we have engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are possible. Huge glass expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome more natural light into the room. More natural light = immediate energy bill savings.

Hardware

Coastal Hardware Upgrade: If your home is within 5 miles of salt water, we strongly recommend our stainless steel operating hardware, which has the same dual arm action as the standard mechanism but with the durability of stainless steel.

Product Family = Variety: The Everest was designed as a family of window products, which can be joined together to create dynamic walls of glass. The casement and/or awning can be mulled or stacked next to many combinations of sliding, single hung and fixed windows.

Full Length Latching: The standard latch is our multi-point lever. When this latch is engaged, the window is cinched into a closer union with the main frame, giving you the most secure latching device on the market.

Dual Arm Operators: The standard hardware for the Everest is a dual arm, gear driven device that operates with little effort. One arm pushes one corner out while the second arm pulls the other corner toward the room.

Optional Butt Hinges: The standard hardware is dual arm operators and hidden hinges. For larger sizes we offer an optional butt style hinge. Most vents only require two but more might be needed to carry heavier panels. Each hinge is constructed of T-6 aluminum and finished to match the window frame color.

Green Friendly

Preserving Rainforests: Wood windows/doors are prevalent in luxury homes but this has a dire affect on forested regions. On the other hand, aluminum is an abundant resource.  In fact, about 8% of the earth's crust consists of aluminum bauxite.  This bountiful supply exceeds global demands and because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material for the next century. Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite is mined in non-forested regions minimizing global environmental impact.

Constructed With Recycled Aluminum: Every aluminum window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches, weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. These extrusions are comprised of virgin aluminum and a high percentage of 'post consumer' aluminum to provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.

No VOCs Released: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgass from many materials and can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted finishes are factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are safely removed. Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.

Eco Smart: Manufacturing produces wasted destined for the world\’s landfills. 100% of our aluminum remnants are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors. This severely reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses 95% less energy and limits the waste stream.

Environmentally Preferred: Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our windows and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better, our windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.

Fire Induced Toxic Fumes: If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not be emitting toxic fumes.  Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but only windows and doors made from metal will not burn.  Also, vinyl products are petroleum based and therefore pose a great fire hazard and emit toxic fumes.  In fact, some rural communities prohibit vinyl window products. This product is not fire rated.

Constructed With Recycled Glass: In addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all Fleetwood products, the glass we use is made of naturally bountiful ingredients such as silica sand. Our suppliers melt down remnants and glass scrap for future use.

Landfills Impacted: All windows and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and doors last decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the world’s landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste. Consider the wasted energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows and doors.

Sustainable Design: Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving (recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment and leaves a small ecological footprint.

Coated With Logic: We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors: paint and anodizing.  Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do not require refinishing.  Because Fleetwood products are factory finished for life, you need only keep them clean.  Can you imagine how much toxic waste would be prevented if everyone chose aluminum? See the inside cover of our brochure for more information regarding painting and anodizing.

Lasting Decades: All windows and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and doors last decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the world's landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste.  As well, imagine the wasted energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows and doors.

Strength & Beauty

Declining Sill: A careful examination of the sill will uncover one of the nuances of the Everest, which is a subtle slope that carries water away from the home.

Strength Of Each Corner: Much time was spent in designing the ideal corner. If the corner is weak, the entire window suffers. Therefore, we have combined our thick wall extrusions and connected each side with a ¼” thick extruded aluminum corner key.

Beveled Profile: The Everest casement and awning extrusions were designed with a subtle slope. This directs eyes through the window instead of drawing too much attention to the window itself.

Problems Diverted 1: Comb the Internet for aluminum casement windows and you will find that most vent panels jut from the frame line. The Everest vent is captured within the frame depth for a more attractive flush finish.

Problems Diverted 2: The unique panel/frame design is more attractive than typical designs and it keeps debris and dust from settling on the top ledge of the vent. Also, the design diverts water away from the house more efficiently.

Hidden Thickness: It does not take a professional to notice the hidden engineering in each Everest extrusion. The user will immediately experience its sturdiness as the window is operated.

Heavy Duty Screen Frame: The Everest screen is the highest quality screen. Many products hold back on frame quality by using roll formed instead of extruded aluminum. The difference is apparent.

Tucked Away: We are especially proud of the Everest screen because it eclipses conventional designs. Not only does it sit inside the frame depth so as not to interfere with wall trimming, but it also is free of ugly clips and instead fits snugly in the frame pocket with hidden spring clips.

Big Sizes: “How big?” is a defining question that will determine the quality of a window. The Everest was engineered to not only function in extreme sizes but to function with ease. For many windows, a typical “max size” is 15 square feet but the Everest is EASILY made over 30 square feet. Windows this large enhance the view and maximize ventilation.

Corrosive Climates & Finishes

Stainless Steel Lever: The standard multi-point lever is constructed of stainless steel. Most of our competitors save a few dollars and use corrodible materials for their latch. See page 14 of the window brochure for more hardware information.

Anodic Colors: In recent years anodizing has become more widely requested and for good reason. It is a rich, contemporary looking finish that is very resilient to handling and weathering damage. We offer several different earth tone colors, ranging from black to clear.

Unique Paint Colors: The Everest is available in two stock paint finishes: White paint and Tan paint. We do, however, encourage custom colors so take advantage of this creative power and select a color that is perfect for your home. Better yet, create your own color and we will match that color.
