Westwood
250-C: Casement, Westwood 250-A: Awning & Westwood 250-H: Hopper
Preserving Art: Larger
windows mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one of our
higher performing glass systems, the light is conditioned for greater comfort.
Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves your
comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.
Balancing: A well designed window
balances the type, size and quantity of its weather-stripping. Too much and the
door is hard to operate. Too little weather-stripping and the window works well
but does not keep out water and wind effectively.
Thermal Education II:
Aluminum is thermally stable in that it does not swell and shrink when the
temperatures or humidity levels change. The fact is that very little actual
energy is lost through the frame material but in the case of wood and vinyl
(expand and contract at high levels) MUCH energy is lost through the frame and
vent seams.
Sound Tested: The Westwood is
tested to several STC ratings. Review the list of results on our website or
contact the Sales Department and we will be happy to help locate the right
product.
Unique Glazing Selections:
Because of technological advances, a great deal of interest has been directed
at specialty glass. Products such as “self cleaning” and “spectrally selective
low e glazing” allow consumers to customize windows for their specific needs.
These are just two of thousands of glazing options you can choose for your
Westwood casement and awning window.
Solar Energy: Because we have
engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are possible. Huge glass
expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome more natural light into
the room. The presence of more natural light is an immediate saving on your
energy bill.
Glare Concerns: Another added
benefit to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced,
allowing you to enjoy your view all the more. Our “spectrally selective low e
glass” is a great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.
Blocking Heat/Cold:
The Westwood 250-A and 250-C windows come standard with an energy-blocking
polymer that has been poured into each frame and vent extrusion. This
translates into fantastic energy and living comfort benefits to the owner.
Thermal Education I:
Aluminum transfers energy very easily. This has wrongly been considered a
negative trait but the fact is that very little energy is lost through the
frame material. Other window materials absorb heat and cold into the frame,
causing that material to fail prematurely. One might say that aluminum is a
more intelligent window material in that it deals with such stress in a
positive way by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure
as it does in vinyl and wood.
Online Glass Choices:
In the Products section of our website we list several test results with
varying types of glass, from standard insulated glass to high performance
glass. This information can be helpful in determining the right glass choice
for your order.
Thick Wall Screen Frame:
The Westwood screen is constructed of heavy gauge extruded aluminum and is
pinned to the main frame with threaded barrel clips.
Welded Corners: The frame and
vent corners are joined together by using a corner key and then pressing them hydraulically
together. To make these corners even stronger we are spot welding them.
Better Screen: The Westwood
250-C and 250-A come standard with an extruded aluminum screen frame. Most
windows in this product category provide a roll formed frame. Not only is roll
formed aluminum softer and more susceptible to damage but it also cannot be
anodized.
Thicker Walls: It does not take a professional to recognize the hidden engineering in each Westwood extrusion because we have made them thicker than most, if not all, rival windows. During operation of the window, the user will immediately experience its sturdiness.
Easily Kept As New:
Fleetwood has published a simple set of procedures to ensure the long life
of your Fleetwood windows and doors. It is conveniently located on the Homeowners
section of our website.
Vermin Resistant: When
consideration is being made for the type of windows you want for your home;
rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not
factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our
6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant. The 6063-T6 designates the
aluminum alloy used in our extrusions and the tempering level.
Waterproof Installation:
To assist builders with a waterproof installation we offer an integral nail-on
fin (part of the frame extrusion). Other window factories attach a separate
add-on fin. This short cut can cause water leak issues years down the road.
Fasteners: We only provide
stainless steel installation screws so the finished product remains attractive
despite the harshest environments. Many brands save time and money by skimping
in this area. Steel fasteners are harder and thus easier to work with BUT they
will rust, whereas stainless steel is resistant to corrosion.
Fire Heat Resistance:
There are window and door products designed and rated to resist impingement
of actual flames but these steel framed products are limited in function and
design. Aluminum doors and windows offer great performance and style and
actually help maintain wall integrity during a fire. The real enemy, which
often incinerates houses, is heat or flying embers. Typical residential windows
(wood or vinyl) are quickly damaged by heat and embers. Our extruded aluminum
retains its form at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit thereby protecting your home.
Security Benefits:
Because Fleetwood endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we
can provide specialty products that others should not. The best glass for
high-security is laminated glass. It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a
polyvinyl interlayer, just like your car windshield, which must withstand
severe impact for your safety. Unless our competitors have an operating system
equal to Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.
Hurricane Glazing:
The Westwood is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant glass.
This specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard
laminated glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile
impacting at 50’ per second.
Noise Control: Some homes are
located in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however,
exterior noises such as traffic are best if kept out. We offer all of our
products with sound abatement glazing.
Stainless Steel Lever:
The standard multi-point lever is constructed of stainless steel. Most of our
competitors save a few dollars and use corrodible materials for their latch.
Special Anodizing:
In recent years anodizing has become more widely requested and for good reason.
It is a rich, contemporary looking finish that is very resilient to handling
and weathering damage. We offer several different earth tone colors, ranging
from black to clear.
Unique Paint Colors: The Westwood is available in two stock paint finishes: White paint and Tan paint. We do, however, encourage custom colors so feel empowered to select a color that best fits the design of your home.
Salt Environment Option: If your home is within 5 miles of salt water we strongly recommend Edge Armor. It is a finish procedure option that involves total fabrication of your product BEFORE painting so all edges are armored with the same protective finish as the rest of the window. This feature is only offered if the Westwood is not thermally broken. Ask your dealer for more details.
Optional Push Out Hardware:
The Westwood 250-C & 250-A windows offer optional push out hardware. This
unique hardware is ideal for austere architecture and is better suited for
corrosive environments than the standard hardware. The hinges are stainless
steel, four-bar hinges and the handle is a simple lever called a cam handle
(twist & push out.) Refer to page 14 of the window brochure.
Full Length Latching:
The standard latch is our “multi-point” lever. When this latch is engaged, the
window is cinched into a closer union with the main frame, giving you the most
secure latching device on the market.
Custom Configurations:
One of the features of the Westwood is its flexibility. We can create a
window-wall that contains several different window types. For example, imagine
a wall with fixed lites, an awning and casement and at the very top, two hopper
windows.
Custom Hinges: Each operable
vent is connected to the mainframe with our proprietary designed, surface
mounted butt hinges. Each hinge is constructed of T-6 extruded aluminum and
finished to match the window frame color.
Stopping VOCs: Volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgas from many
materials and can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted
finishes are factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are
safely removed. Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.
Sustainable Design:
Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about
sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving
(recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment
and leaves a small ecological footprint.
Ecological Finishes:
We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors: paint and
anodizing. Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do
not require refinishing. Because Fleetwood products are factory
finished for life, you need only keep them clean. Can you imagine the reduction
of VOCs if everyone chose aluminum over products requiring? See the inside
cover of our brochure for more information regarding painting and anodizing.
Recycled Metal: Every aluminum
window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches,
weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. The extrusions are
comprised of virgin aluminum and a high percentage of post consumer aluminum to
provide the world with products whose supply almost never depletes.
Recycled Glass: In
addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all Fleetwood
products, the glass we use is made of naturally bountiful ingredients such as
silica sand. Our suppliers also melt down remnants and glass scrap for future
use.
Friendlier During Fire:
If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not emit toxic
fumes. Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but
only windows and doors made from metal will not burn. Also, vinyl
products are petroleum based and therefore pose a great fire hazard and emit
toxic fumes. In fact, some rural communities prohibit vinyl window
products. This product is not fire rated.
Last Longer Than The Rest:
All windows and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and
doors last decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the
world\’s landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste. As well, imagine the
wasted energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows
and doors.
Landfills Impacted:
All windows and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and
doors last decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the
world's landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste. Consider the wasted
energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows and
doors.
Environmentally Preferred:
Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our
windows and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better,
our windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can
purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.
Preserving Rainforests:
Wood windows/doors are prevalent in luxury homes but this has a dire affect on
forested regions. On the other hand, aluminum is an abundant resource. In
fact, about 8% of the earth's crust consists of aluminum bauxite. This
bountiful supply exceeds global demands and because of its recyclable nature,
aluminum is the material for the next century. Additionally, 94% of the
world’s supply of bauxite is mined in non-forested regions minimizing global
environmental impact.
Green-Logical: Manufacturing
produces waste destined for the world\’s landfills. 100% of our aluminum remnants
are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors. This severely
reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses 95% less
energy and limits the waste stream.
