Norwood 3000
Traditional Style Sliding Door
Ensuring the safety of your home should be the
number one design consideration.
Security: Because Fleetwood
endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we can provide
specialty products that others should not. The best glass for high-security is
laminated glass. It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a polyvinyl
interlayer, just like your car windshield that must withstand severe impact for
your safety. Unless our competitors have rollers and a track system equal to
Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.
Noise Control: Some homes are
located in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however,
exterior noises such as traffic are best if kept out. We offer all of our
products with sound abatement glazing.
Hurricane Glazing:
The Norwood 3000 is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant
glass. This specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard
laminated glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile
impacting at 50’ per second.
Fire Heat Resistance:
There are window and door products designed and rated to resist the impingement
of actual flames but these steel framed products are limited in function and
design. Aluminum doors and windows offer great performance and style and
actually help maintain wall integrity during a fire. The real enemy which often
incinerates houses is heat or flying embers. Typical residential windows (wood
or vinyl) are quickly damaged by heat and embers. Our extruded aluminum retains
its form at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit thereby protecting your home.
We are pleased to offer the series 3000 in a variety of
colors and sizes.
Handle Colors & Choices? The
Series 3000 comes standard with a thumb turn latch and a “C” shaped pull. As an
option we offer our Archetype I Hardware. Read more about this hardware in the
SMOOTH section of the brochure. With either the thumb turn or Archetype, you
can elect to attach your own handle. This is a great option because there are
literally thousands of handles that will fit on our lead-stile and this way our
customers will get exactly what they want.
Color Choices: The Series
3000 is available in four stock finishes. Our White is polyester grade paint.
Our Tan is a Kynar 500TM base paint. Our Clear Anodized finish
reveals the natural character of extruded aluminum and our Dark Bronze Anodize
is similar to a matte black finish. We encourage custom colors and offer
thousands of paint colors and a handful of earth tone custom anodized choices.
Our website offers more information on colors and the difference in paint and
anodizing.
Special Sizes: Every 3000
door is made to order and custom sizes are encouraged.
Smooth!
Consider a few reasons why the Norwood 3000 is actually fun to
move.
Deluxe Screen: So many
doors are provided with a flimsy screen. A cheap screen door can make a
nice door system seem cheap. Our standard screen is sturdy and attractive and
our stainless steel rollers and latching system make it easy to operate.
Precision Bearing Rollers? Yes!
The Norwood 3000 comes standard with a precision bearing roller similar
to the MAMMOTH Roller. The difference is that these wheels measure 1 7/8"
whereas the Mammoth wheels are 3" in diameter. Ask your dealer for more
information or contact the factory direct.
Weather Protection:
In window and door manufacturing there is a balance that must be maintained
with the type, size and quantity of weather-stripping. The Series 3000 is
perfectly balanced. Too much and the door is hard to operate. Too little
weather-stripping and the door rolls well but does not keep out water and wind
effectively.
Patent Pending Latch:
In 2005 we began a two-year design project to create a better door latching
system. The market offered several types but all failed to pass the Fleetwood
quality level so we needed to design our own. The net result is the Archetype I
and Archetype II systems.
Power Savings
True energy savings should be computed over
the life of your door, not the short term “test results”. The Norwood was
created to outlast the home.
Thermal Education II:
Aluminum is thermally stable in that it does not swell and shrink when the temperature
or humidity levels change. The fact is that very little actual energy is lost
through the frame material but in the case of wood and vinyl (expand and
contract at high levels) MUCH energy is lost through the frame and vent seams.
Air Leakage Part I:
Wood and vinyl swell and shrink as the weather changes. And like an old house
they can creak and groan. DO NOT be fooled by those windows/doors that tout
“U-value = energy efficiency”. To understand the u-value test is to know that
it is a misleading rating (see Air Leakage Part II).
Air Leakage Part II:
Were you aware that during the test all weep holes, seams, etc are sealed shut?
No wonder wood and vinyl perform so well in this “test” because only material
is tested and not the product. Real conditions cause expansion and contraction,
which allows energy to come right through the frame. Aluminum has infinitesimal
movement during weather change, which causes it to be efficient year in and
year out.
Flared Interlockers:
Notice how the interlockers on all Fleetwood doors “wedge” into each other? This
makes a rattle free union. Cheaper models rely solely on the “brush”
weather-stripping. This causes more noise and air infiltration because the
“brush” wears out.
Preserving Art: Larger
doors mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one of our
higher performing glass systems the light is conditioned for greater comfort.
Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves your
comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.
Passive Solar Energy:
Because we have engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are
possible. Huge glass expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome
more natural light into the room. The presence of more natural light is an
immediate saving on your energy bill.
Glare Concerns: Another added
benefit to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced,
allowing you to enjoy your view all the more. Our “spectrally selective low e
glass” is a great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.
Thermal Education I:
Aluminum transfers energy very easily. This has wrongly been considered a
negative trait but the fact is that very little energy is lost through the
frame material. Other window materials absorb heat and cold into the frame,
causing that material to fail prematurely. One might say that aluminum is a
more intelligent window material in that it deals with such stress in a
positive way by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure
as it does in vinyl and wood.
High Tech Glass!
A great deal of interest has been directed at specialty glass such as "self
cleaning" and the latest "low e glazing" which allows more light
and less of the sun’s heat.
Energy Ratings: In the
Product section of our website we list several test results with varying types
of glass, from standard insulated glass to high performance glass.
Responsible To The Planet
Everyone should be concerned
about the globe we live on. When Fleetwood is the chosen window/door, the
owners profit as well as the earth.
No VOCs Released: Volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgass from many
materials and can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted
finishes are factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are
safely removed. Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.
Remnants Recycled:
Manufacturing produces waste destined for the world\’s landfills. 100% of our
aluminum remnants are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors.
This severely reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses
95% less energy and limits the waste stream.
Lasts Longer: All windows and
doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and doors last
decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the world's
landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste. As well, imagine the wasted
energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows and
doors.
Supply Surplus: Aluminum is an
abundant resource. In fact, about 8% of the earth's crust consists of
aluminum bauxite. This bountiful supply exceeds global demands and
because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material for the next century.
Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite is mined in non-forested
regions minimizing global environmental impact.
Safe Coatings & Finishes:
If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not emit toxic
fumes. Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but
only windows and doors made from metal will not burn. Also, vinyl
products are petroleum based and therefore a great fire hazard and emit toxic
fumes. In fact, some rural communities prohibit vinyl window
products. This product is not fire rated.
Coated With Logic:
We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors: paint and
anodizing. Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do
not require refinishing. Because Fleetwood products are factory
finished for life, you need only keep them clean. Can you imagine the
reduction of VOCs if everyone chose aluminum over products requiring
refinishing?
Sustainable Design:
Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about
sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving
(recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment
and leaves a small ecological footprint.
Metal Recycled: Every aluminum
window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches,
weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. These extrusions
are comprised of virgin aluminum and, on average, 40% - 50% of post consumer
aluminum to provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.
Using Recycled Glass:
In addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all
Fleetwood products, the glass we use is made of bountiful ingredients such as
silica sand. Our suppliers also melt down remnants and glass scrap for future
use.
Environmentally Preferred:
Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our
windows and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better,
our windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can
purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.
Simply Preserved
Fleetwood
has earned the reputation of producing products that endure.
Easy Maintenance: Fleetwood
has published a simple set of procedures to ensure the long life of your
Fleetwood doors and windows. It is readily available from the Homeowners
section of our website.
Vermin Resistant: When
consideration is being made for the type of doors you want for your home;
rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not
factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our
6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant. The 6063-T6 designates the
aluminum alloy used in our extrusions and the tempering level.
Replaceable Track: Most
every other door on the market cuts corners when it comes to the rollers and
the track. Our doors roll on a heavy gauge stainless steel insert. This
optimizes operation because the convex relationship of the track fits perfectly
with the concavity of the wheel. Most other manufacturers have an aluminum sill
and strap on a thin cap. Like most short cuts, this cap will deform and
eventually come off.
Fasteners: We only provide
stainless steel installation screws so the finished product remains attractive
despite the harshest environments. Many brands save time and money by skimping
in this area. Steel fasteners are harder and thus easier to work with BUT they
will rust, whereas stainless steel is resistant to corrosion.
Longer Life Metals: The
Series 3000 consists only of the highest-grade stainless steel rollers and
latch assemblies. As well, we only use stainless steel fasteners to attach these
components to the aluminum framing. So much is said about the Precision Mammoth
rollers on the 3070 and 3050 doors but our Series 3000 roller is bigger than
most doors boasting better performance.
Details
Fleetwood designs detail into each of our products because
we think you will appreciate these “details”.
Insulated Glass Spacer: Our standard spacer is a dark bronze
anodized color. Other products use a silver spacer, which reflects light as a
mirror and is often distracting.
Hidden Excellence: One
of the attractive features of a Fleetwood is the hidden strength of the
aluminum wall thickness. The “other guys” provide thin walls that scream
“cheap” when you operate the product. With Fleetwood you get more than you paid
for. Compare full size samples before you buy.
Dressed Up: So many of our
competitors fasten their fixed panels with ugly clips and exposed fasteners.
Fleetwood has an exclusive design on our unique “Sill Block” which secures the
fixed panel in a stealth manner. Moreover, our head filler really dresses up
the entire door system.
Salt Air Upgrade: If
your home is within 5 miles of salt water we strongly recommend Edge
Armor. It is a finish procedure option that involves total fabrication of
your doors BEFORE painting so all edges are armored with
the same protective finish as the rest of the door. This option costs a little
more but the value is well worth it! As well as the aesthetic benefit, Edge
Armor comes with a 10-year warranty. It is only available in painted applications (no anodizing).
