Norwood
3070-HI Hurricane / Impact Sliding System
Keeping your home safe should be the most important
design consideration.
Benefits Security:
Because Fleetwood endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we
can provide specialty products that others should not. The best glass for
high-security is laminated glass, which is standard for the HI. It is two
sheets of glass sandwiched to a polyvinyl interlayer, just like your car
windshield that must withstand severe impact for your safety. Unless our
competitors have an operating system equal to Fleetwood, they should not
attempt this heavier glass.
Noise Control: Some homes are
located in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however,
exterior noises such as traffic are best if kept out. We offer all of our
products with sound abatement glazing.
How can Fleetwood operate so much better than other doors on the
market?
Air Leakage Part I:
Wood and vinyl swell and shrink as the weather changes. And like an old house
they can creak and groan. DO NOT be fooled by those windows/doors that tout
“U-value = energy efficiency”. To understand the u-value test is to know that
it is a misleading rating (see Air Leakage Part II).
Air Leakage Part II:
Were you aware that during the test all weep holes, seams, etc are sealed shut?
No wonder wood and vinyl perform so well in this “test” because only material
is tested and not the product. Real conditions cause expansion and contraction,
which allows energy to come right through the frame. Aluminum has infinitesimal
movement during weather change, which causes it to be efficient year in and year
out.
Weather-stripping
Balance: In window and door manufacturing there is a
balance that must be maintained with the type, size and quantity of
weather-stripping. Too much and the door is hard to operate. Too little
weather-stripping and the door rolls well but does not keep out water and wind
effectively. The “HI” has achieved the proper balance.
MAMMOTH Rollers! Fleetwood
maintains the industry reputation as having the "best rolling doors".
To keep that prominence we have designed the Mammoth. It is a
stainless steel tandem roller comprised of two 3" diameter wheels with authentic
precision bearings produced by our partner in Switzerland. It is so good our
competitors turned from scoffers to imitators.
Track Insert: If you will take
the time to study the roller track you will see a unique design. Our track is a
solid aluminum base that receives a heavy gauge stainless steel insert. Cheaper
designs offer an aluminum runner and a metal cap. Our track will last longer,
can handle more weight and is easily replaced.
When using Fleetwood, you
benefit as well as the earth.
Environmentally Preferred:
Because aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our windows
and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better, our
windows and doors are created in such a way that far reaching markets can
purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.
Keep Away From VOCs:
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgass from many
materials and can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted
finishes are factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are
safely removed. Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.
Safe Coatings & Finishes:
We offer two types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors: paint and
anodizing. Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do
not require refinishing. Because Fleetwood products are factory
finished for life, you need only keep them clean. Can you imagine the
reduction in VOCs if everyone chose aluminum over products requiring
refinishing? See the inside cover of our brochure for more information
regarding painting and anodizing.
Fire Induced Toxic Fumes:
If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not emit toxic
fumes. Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but
only windows and doors made from metal will not burn. Also, vinyl
products are petroleum based and therefore a great fire hazard and emit toxic
fumes. In fact, some rural communities prohibit vinyl window products. This
product is not fire rated.
Remnants Recycled:
Manufacturing produces waste destined for the world\’s landfills. 100% of our
aluminum remnants are collected and melted down to make new windows and doors.
This severely reduces energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses
95% less energy and limits the waste stream.
Recycled Aluminum:
Every aluminum window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches,
weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. These extrusions
are comprised of virgin aluminum and a high percentage of post consumer
aluminum to provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.
Lasts Longer: All windows
and doors eventually must be replaced BUT aluminum windows and doors last
decades longer than wood and vinyl. Consider the impact on the world's
landfills with all the wood and vinyl waste. As well, imagine the wasted
energy on redundant manufacturing of short-lived wood and vinyl windows and
doors.
Plentiful Supply:
Aluminum is an abundant resource. In fact, about 8% of the earth's crust
consists of aluminum bauxite. This bountiful supply exceeds global demands
and because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material for the
next century. Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite is mined
in non-forested regions minimizing global environmental impact.
Sustainable Design:
Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about
sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving
(recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment
and leaves a small ecological footprint.
Glass = Sustainable Resource:
In addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all
Fleetwood products, the glass we use is made of bountiful ingredients such as
silica sand. Our suppliers also melt down remnants and glass scrap for future
use.
The “HI” is the finest impact rated door made. Consider
Why.
Tighter Interlockers:
Notice how the interlockers on all Fleetwood doors “wedge” into each other?
This makes a rattle free union. Cheaper models rely solely on the “brush”
weather-stripping. This causes more noise and air infiltration because the
“brush” wears out.
90-Degree Corner Doors: The
Norwood 3070-HI has passed the Dade County requirements in a corner door. This
provides the owners with a tremendous quality of life feature. Imagine the two
outer glass walls of the room sliding into a hidden pocket. What remains?
Because there is NO corner post it is just you and your view!
Configuration
Styles: Because
each panel can have its own track, you can create hundreds of custom systems
such as PXXXXX, OXXXXXO, PXXP, XXXXXXX, etc. Just ask your dealer or contact
Inside Sales at the factory to help you design your custom system.
Slender Vertical Stiles:
Many impact rated doors have large, bulky vertical stiles. The “HI” is the only
door with a sleek, 2 1/8” wide interlocker to maximize the view.
We are pleased to offer the “HI” in many different colors
and sizes.
Asymmetrical Panels: Some
project designs demand each door panel to be a different width. It may be part
of the architecture or it might simply be needed to line up with a necessary
support beam/pole. The “HI” can be made this way and there is not a special
charge applied.
Choose A Custom Color: Every
“HI” is available in four stock finishes: Our White is polyester grade paint.
Our Tan is a Kynar 500TM base paint. Our Clear Anodized finish
reveals the natural character of extruded aluminum and our Dark Bronze Anodize
is similar to a matte black finish. We encourage custom colors and offer
thousands of paint colors and a handful of earth tone custom anodized choices.
Our website offers more information on colors and the difference in paint and
anodizing.
Special Sizes: Every “HI” is
made to order and custom sizes are encouraged as long as the NOA limitations are
not exceeded.
We
believe “little things make a big difference” so we have included many of these
into our standard door package.
Precision Bearing Rollers: The
MAMMOTH roller comes standard with authentic precision bearings. Many doors
claim “precision” but only Fleetwood partners with a Switzerland based
manufacturer that specializes in precision bearings for other industries.
“Recessed Latch”: In 2005
we began a two-year design project to create a better door latching system. The
market offered several types but all failed to meet the Fleetwood quality so we
needed to design our own. The net result is the Archetype I and Archetype II latching
systems, and so impressive is the design that we have filed for a US Patent.
Clean Appearance: We have gone to great
lengths to make the appearance of this door exceptional. We provide free
upgrades that other manufacturers think are a waste of money, such as: Pocket
Closers, Jamb Closers, Head Closers, and Sill Closers. These “small things”
complete the package.
Commensurate
Quality Screen Door: So many other doors are provided with a flimsy screen. Our standard screen is the best sliding
screen door made, period! Why? Because we use the same parts as we do on
the glass panels.
Easily Preserved
A
mark of Fleetwood products is product longevity.
Simple Care: Fleetwood has
published a simple set of procedures to ensure the long life of your Fleetwood
doors and windows. It is readily available from the Homeowners section
of our website.
Replaceable Stainless Steel Track: Most
every other door on the market cuts corners when it comes to the rollers and
the track. Not Fleetwood! Our deluxe product rolls on a stainless steel insert,
which optimizes operation ease. The “other guys” provide a Band-Aid approach
with a thin cap over an aluminum track. As with most Band-Aids it will
eventually come off.
Track Finish Protection:
Our door threshold design is unique in many aspects, one of which is its built
in protection against damage. Notice that the stainless steel track insert sits
a little higher than the aluminum sill, protecting the finish from damage
caused by foot traffic and daily wear and tear. Other door manufacturers
provide a different color sill to mask such damage but Fleetwood’s beauty
extends all the way to the floor.
Vermin Resistant:
When consideration is being made for the type of doors you want for your home,
rodents, termites and vermin (especially the human variety) are often not
factored into the decision. Invaders can easily destroy wood or vinyl but our
6063-T6 extrusions are vermin and termite resistant. The 6063-T6 designates the
aluminum alloy used in our extrusions and the tempering level.
Fasteners: We only provide
stainless steel installation screws so the finished product remains attractive
despite the harshest environments. Many brands save time and money by skimping
in this area. Steel fasteners are harder and thus easier to work with BUT they
will rust, whereas stainless steel is resistant to corrosion.
Stainless Steel: The
Norwood 3070-HI uses only the highest-grade stainless steel rollers and latch
assemblies. As well, we only use stainless steel fasteners to attach these
components to the aluminum framing and we only provide stainless steel
installation screws.
Coastal Finish Upgrade: If
your home is within 5 miles of salt water we strongly recommend Edge
Armor. It is a finish procedure option that involves total fabrication
of your “HI” doors BEFORE painting so all edges are armored
with the same protective finish as the rest of the door. This option
costs a little more but the value is well worth it! As well as the aesthetic
benefit, Edge Armor comes with a 10-year warranty. It is only available in painted applications
(no anodizing).
The “HI” was created to mingle with changeless
architecture.
Block Style: Our extrusions
direct eyes away from our door and toward the home designs and the view.
Distinct Lines = More Glass:
Our interlockers are 2 1/8”. In the sliding impact door market, this is unheard
of and is still able to achieve exceptional wind load performance.
Huge Sizes: Strength and
beauty are demonstrated by Fleetwood’s unique ability to produce HUGE doors.
Common panel sizes are 60” by 115” and we are in the process of testing even
taller sizes.
