collected and melted down to make new windows and doors. This severely reduces
energy input because aluminum production from scrap uses 95% less energy and
limits the waste stream.
Made Of Recycled Metal:
Every aluminum window and door is made up of components (rollers, latches,
weather-stripping...) as well as extrusions and glass. The extrusions are
comprised of virgin aluminum and a high percentage of post consumer aluminum to
provide the world with products whose supply is nearly unlimited.
Fire Induced Toxic Fumes:
If a fire were to occur in your home your aluminum would not be emitting toxic
fumes. Other window products incinerate quickly and add to the flames but
only windows and doors made from metal will not burn. Also, vinyl
products are petroleum based and therefore pose a great fire hazard and emit
toxic fumes. In fact, some rural communities prohibit vinyl window
products. This product is not fire rated.
Lasting Decades Longer:

aluminum is a relatively lightweight building product, we can ship our windows
and doors all over the world with little logistical waste. Even better, our

purchase glass locally and avoid the glass transit costs.
Factory Coatings: We offer two
types of finishes on our aluminum windows and doors: paint and anodizing.
Both processes result in environmentally safe products that do not require
refinishing. Because Fleetwood products are factory finished

Preserving: Wood windows/doors are
prevalent in luxury homes but this has a dire affect on forested regions. On
the other hand, aluminum is an abundant resource. In fact, about 8% of
the earth's crust consists of aluminum bauxite. This bountiful supply exceeds
global demands and because of its recyclable nature, aluminum is the material
for the next century. Additionally, 94% of the world’s supply of bauxite
is mined in non-forested regions minimizing global environmental impact.

Remade Glass: In
addition to the high percentage of recycled aluminum used on all Fleetwood
products, the glass we use is made of bountiful ingredients such as silica
sand. Our suppliers also melt down remnants and glass scrap for future use.
Sustainable Design:
Aluminum is a fantastic building product for those concerned about
sustainability. It is naturally plentiful and perpetually surviving
(recyclability). Moreover, aluminum rates very high in Life Cycle Assessment
and leaves a small ecological footprint.
Avoiding VOCs: Volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) are chemical compounds that outgas from many
materials and can pollute the air in your home. Since Fleetwood’s painted
finishes are factory cured at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, these compounds are
safely removed. Neither wood nor vinyl can provide factory baked coatings.
Line Symmetry: Careful
attention was given to the scale of the Everest sliding window. The vertical extrusions
were engineered to handle large sizes and retain architectural splendor.
Heavy Walls: It does not take a
professional to realize the hidden engineering in each Everest extrusion
because we have made them thicker than most, if not all, rival windows. During
operation of the window, the user will immediately experience its sturdiness.
Encapsulated Screen:
The Everest surpasses all other windows for many reasons. One of those unique
features is its “captured” screen. Most window screens jut out from the main
frame but the Everest is captured within the frame depth making it the cleanest
look on the market.
Sloped Sill: A careful examination
of the sill will uncover one of the nuances of the Everest: a subtle slope that
carries water away from the home.
Large Sizes: “How big?” is
a defining question that will determine the quality of a window. The Everest
was engineered to not only function in extreme sizes but to function with ease.
For many windows, a typical “max size” is 25 square feet (sliding panel) and 15
square feet (single hung panel.) The Everest, however, is EASILY made 40 square
feet and 25 square feet respectively.
Cornerstone Strength:
Much time was spent in designing the ideal vent corner union. We thought it was
critical to maximize strength but not compromise esthetics. We believe we have
achieved the right balance with our multi-wall extrusion and the use of a ¼”
thick extruded aluminum corner key.
Snap-in Glazing: Most sliding
windows are made with a vinyl glass wrap. The Everest was designed with snap-in
glazing to create perfect harmony with the other members of the Everest family.
It is the only slider in the luxury home market with this feature.
Extruded NOT Roll Formed:
Made of thick wall aluminum extrusions, the Everest screen stands out as an
elite category window screen. Many products skimp on the screen frame by using
roll formed instead of extruded aluminum. The difference is obvious in finish
quality and sturdiness of the frame.
The Finest Hardware Available II:
In addition to the custom nature of the internal components, the Everest latch
is made from cast stainless steel and costs more to manufacture than some
windows in their entirety. We believe Everest customers will value this
exceptional handle/latch.
Finest Hardware Available III:
Most window latches stick into the glass view or they require a wide section to
accept the latch. Either way, the view suffers. Our latch has a unique spring
loaded recessed handle that is hidden in the sight line of the interlocker. It
is the only window latch of its design.
Compliments Casements, Awning & Fixed:
The Everest was designed as a family of window products which can be joined
together to create dynamic walls of glass. The sliding window can be “mulled”
or stacked next to many combinations of casement, awning, single hung and fixed
windows.

Typical sliding window latches are made of low cost components, which result in
early failure. Our exclusive latch was engineered with precision parts with
strict tolerances. The result is effortless operation for a lifetime.
Precision Bearing Rollers:
In keeping with its well-deserved elite status, the Everest roller is the best
window roller made. It is a proprietary component for Fleetwood, constructed of
high-grade stainless steel and equipped with authentic Swiss precision
bearings. Each roller consists of two wheels that are easily adjustable. The
roller is strong enough to handle panels that exceed 1,000 lbs.
Heavy Duty Rated:
Because of its heavy wall design it takes stronger sash balance hardware to
balance the Everest. The standard balance system is designed for heavy
commercial use, but in the Everest single hung, it becomes a luxury item.
Multi-Slide Option:
With a simple request, we will make your Everest window so that all panels can
slide. This is ideal for second story homes to allow window cleaning to be done
from the inside of the room, and is ideal for pass-thru applications.
High-Tech Glazing Materials:
Because of technological advances, a great variety of energy efficient glazing
can be factory fit into your window. Products such as “self cleaning” and
“spectrally selective low e glazing” allow consumers to customize windows for
their specific needs.
Balancing Weather Stripping:
A well designed window balances the type, size and quantity of its
weather-stripping. Too much and the door is hard to operate. Too little
weather-stripping and the window works well but does not keep out water and
wind effectively.

Thermal Education I:
Aluminum transfers energy very easily. This has wrongly been considered a
negative trait but the fact is that very little energy is lost through the
frame material. Other window materials absorb heat and cold into the frame,
causing that material to fail prematurely. One might say that aluminum is a
more intelligent window material in that it deals with such stress in a
positive way by releasing the energy that would normally cause material failure
as it does in vinyl and wood.
Thermal Education II:
Aluminum is thermally stable in that it does not swell and shrink when the
temperatures or humidity levels change. The fact is that very little actual
energy is lost through the frame material but in the case of wood and vinyl
(expand and contract at high levels) MUCH energy is lost through the frame and
vent seams.
Protecting Furnishings:
Larger windows mean more natural light, saving you money. If you choose one
of our higher performing glass systems the light is conditioned for greater
comfort. Destructive elements such as UV Rays are filtered out, which improves
your comfort and protects your flooring, furnishings and art.
Natural Energy: Because we
have engineered our products for strength, larger sizes are possible. Huge
glass expanses not only accentuate your view but also welcome more natural
light into the room. More natural light = immediate energy bill savings.
Glare Concerns: An added
benefit to selecting high performing glass is that glare is radically reduced,
allowing you to enjoy your view all the more. Our “spectrally selective low e
glass” is a great start and by adding tinted glass even more glare is repelled.
Hybrid Extrusions:
The perimeter frame extrusions and the glass panel extrusions are
equipped with an energy-blocking polymer, making the Everest one of the most
energy efficient performance windows on the market. The process is simple and
eco friendly.
Anodized Colors: In recent years
anodizing has become more widely requested and for good reason. It is a rich,
contemporary looking finish that is very resilient to handling and weathering
damage. We offer several different earth tone colors, ranging from black to
clear.
Custom Paint Colors:
The Everest is available in two stock paint finishes: White paint and Tan
paint. We do, however, encourage custom colors so feel uninhibited to select a
color that is perfect for your home.
Protected Sash Balances:
Single hung windows have balances to hold up the window sash. The Everest
balance is tucked inside the vertical rails so elements, such as inclement
weather and salt air, cannot adversely affect its performance.
Stainless Steel Hardware: There are many Everest features that will impress you but perhaps the main one is our proprietary designed A-3 Hardware. It took our design team over two years to invent what we believe is the quintessential slider/single hung hardware. The lock and handle are in the same unit and operate with a simple push and pull. It is constructed of cast stainless steel and has a natural brushed stainless finish.
Stainless Steel Latch Receiver: The “keeper” is the part of the locking
hardware that receives the latch when the window is closed. If the keeper
fails, the window cannot remain locked, making it crucial for the keeper to
function correctly. The Everest keeper is made of cast stainless steel and is
the perfect compliment to the A-3 Hardware.
Installation Assistance:
To assist builders with a waterproof installation we offer an integral nail-on
fin (part of the frame extrusion). Other window factories attach a separate
add-on fin. This short cut can cause water leak issues years down the road.
Stainless Fasteners:
We only provide stainless steel installation screws so the finished product
remains attractive despite the harshest environments. Many brands save time and
money by skimping in this area. Steel fasteners are harder and thus easier to
work with BUT they will rust, whereas stainless steel is resistant to
corrosion.
Durable Materials:
The Everest utilizes only the highest-grade, adjustable stainless steel rollers
and latch assemblies. Even more, we use only stainless steel fasteners to
attach these components.
Sturdy Components:
Every single hung is made with the highest-grade, heavy-duty sash balances
which support the weight and allow effortless operation.
Daily Usage: One
maintenance issue, which is often overlooked, is the daily hassle of using a
window. The Everest components and design allow it to glide with ease every

Hurricane Glazing:
The Everest is offered with factory glazed hurricane resistant
glass. This specialty glazing is made with a thicker interlayer than standard
laminated glass. This interlayer was designed to resist a wood missile
impacting at 50’ per second.
Noise Control: Some homes are located
in areas where the ambient sounds are wanted. In some cases however, exterior
noises such as traffic are best if kept out. We offer all of our products with
sound abatement glazing.
Fire Heat Resistance:
There are window and door products designed and rated to resist the
impingement of actual flames but these steel framed products are limited in
function and design. Aluminum doors and windows offer great performance and
style and actually help maintain wall integrity during a fire. The real enemy which
often incinerates houses is heat or flying embers. Typical residential windows
(wood or vinyl) are quickly damaged by heat and embers. Our extruded aluminum
retains its form at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit thereby protecting your home.
Security: Because Fleetwood
endeavors to make its products better instead of cheaper, we can provide
specialty products that others should not. The best glass for high-security is
laminated glass. It is two sheets of glass sandwiched to a polyvinyl
interlayer, just like your car windshield, which must withstand severe impact
for your safety. Unless our competitors have an operating system equal to
Fleetwood, they should not attempt this heavier glass.
